The Bushwick Generator is a community oriented – and most importantly community led – innovation lab in Brooklyn. We are home to experts and novices in urban tech, blockchain, AI, urban agriculture, and other social impactful focused industries.
Our members can take an active leadership role by completing proposed tasks, organizing and hosting events, and contribute to other member’s projects.
In 2018, native Brooklyn painter, Keli Lucas, was brought into the space for the start of The Generator’s first ever Art Residency. Through her growth in the space, she then co-founded her Museum with tech expert Justin Munoz, called The Parallel, and partnered with non-profit organizations Sustainable United Neighborhoods and ArteLaTam.
In 2019, SUN and The Parallel team went on their first humanitarian mission to Vieques Puerto Rico, bringing with them necessary resources for the folks who lost everything due to US Military bomb testing and hurricanes Maria and Irma. There, with Muñoz’s film expertise, the teams began filming two documentary films which will continue being shot through 2020.
In 2020, SUN plans to partner with The Parallel, Keli Lucas LLC and ArteLaTam to expand their residency program at The Bushwick Generator for a series of two week long studio space including materials and resources for artists to apply to from anywhere in New York State. This will be an opportunity of a lifetime for an artist who dreams of having a foot in the door of the New York City art world.
